Online Hold'em games are raging across the internet today. No other form of poker, or any kind of card game for that matter, has ever been as popular as Hold'em is now. With an internet connection, you can play online Hold'em on any number of different sites at any time of day, and you are guaranteed to find thousands of other people out there also looking for a game.

If you're new to poker, chances are you're like everyone else playing the game these days and are primarily interested in Texas Hold'em. The enormous availability of online Hold'em games will therefore appeal to you. Online poker games are a great way to learn the basics of the game, get comfortable enough with how to play to give you the confidence boost you need before looking for a live game.

Of course, one of the greatest things about playing online Hold'em is that you can play from the comfort of your own home. You don't have to deal with a shady casino, and can learn the game without worrying about looking like an idiot. Feel free to make plenty of mistakes and you'll get a chance to learn from them without any embarrassment.

Another good thing about online Hold'em is that you can play for free, using "play money". I don't really know of any casinos that sponsor poker games using fake chips, so online Hold'em is a great way to get your Hold'em fix without blowing through a bunch of money or gambling away your kids college money.

If you are interested in the Hold'em varieties of poker, and can't seem to get a live game together, you'll find plenty of online Hold'em poker sites to choose from. My favorites include Full Tilt Poker, Party Poker, and Ultimate Bet. They seem to have the shortest delays, and always have plenty of people online to play with.

Many sites that host online Hold'em games are frequented by professional poker players, and if you play long enough there is a pretty good chance you'll run into one. And of course, if you play enough online Hold'em there's always that chance you might just become a professional player yourself! It may seem like a long shot, but the last two World Series of Poker main events were dominated by people that had learned how to play Hold'em online. Find an online Hold'em game that you like, stick with it, and you never know. At the very least, you'll have a good time and learn a fun new game.
